Our founder, Truett Kent Elliott, (March 11, 1919 - November 16, 2012) was born in Menard, Texas and grew up an orphan on the streets of San Angelo. As a teenager, Kent was a member of the Boy Scouts, worked at Fox's Garage and sold newspapers in downtown San Angelo. After high school, he attended San Angelo Junior College and lacked but just one semester from graduating at Texas Tech. In 1942, Kent married Bettie Dee Harrison and they enjoyed 68 years together. Kent proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for four and a half years as an aerial photographer and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant.

Depend on Kent Elliott Roofing
We value our employees. They are Highly Trained and Knowledgeable people, in whom we have entrusted our hard-earned reputation, and whose families have become an extension of our own. We all live and work in the local community, serving our neighbors in local churches, schools, and volunteer organizations. From the start of our business back in 1966, our founder, Kent Elliott, understood the importance of honesty, integrity, and community service. These qualities of personal character still matter to us and are the foundation upon which our new owner, Brandon Smythe, steadfastly maintains the Kent Elliott Roofing Company into the first half of the 21st Century.
He worked in sales for Harrison Roofing Company before starting Kent Elliott Roofing Company after a destructive hail storm hit the San Angelo area in 1966. In the 1960s, as a public service, Kent was known to drive his El Camino, with his roofer's ladder on a rack, to burglary calls downtown. San Angelo police officers would use the tall roofing ladder to check roof entrances into the buildings. In the 1970s, Kent was instrumental in forming a group of San Angelo business leaders to ring the bell for the Salvation Army downtown on Christmas Eve. Always a proud supporter of the San Angelo Central High School Bobcats, he held season tickets and attended football games until age 85. Kent Elliott was a loyal and lifelong member of the Business Men's Bible Class, and a longtime supporter of the West Texas Boys Ranch; putting several of the young men to work and mentoring them after they left the Ranch.
